How to Double Up on Security with Access Control

,

At one point or another, we have come across and used an access control especially for us working in commercial buildings and spaces. Access control is a security feature that selects and restricts access to a given place to a limited number of people. In exclusive buildings where top secret businesses are being conducted, having a tight and highly exclusive security control is essential to avoid leaks and illegal entries from happening.

In order to double up on the security in your premises, you have to make sure that your access controls are not easy to manipulate to begin with. Today, with the rise of electronically operated and managed controls, it is easy to stay on top of your buildings’ and premises’ security. There are cards that can electronically open a locked door.
There are also electronically locked doors that need to be opened by entering a pin code or a password that is exclusive to a small group of people’s knowledge. There are also locks that need to be opened using a fingerprint that is recorded onto a biometric device. Fingerprints are gathered and recorded with a duly recognised representative so that manipulations are eliminated and the fingerprints collected are authentic to one person to begin with.

Today, it is so easy to replicate fingerprints, thus it is essential that once these records are being gathered, a security official is present to validate the fingerprint that is being recorded. For more secure settings, a retina record is also required more than a fingerprint record. Retina records are deemed to be more unique and hard to replicate if there are any attempts to even do so. These technologically based security locks are definitely hard to tamper with, but can be very easy to be installed since most of these devices can be easily set up with just a few touches of the buttons. Records, such as time ins and time outs, can be easily accessed via a USB port that is mostly a part of the overall security control device.

Of course, even in the face of electronically managed access systems, it is important not to disregard the power of mechanical and physical locks in ensuring the safety and security of one’s premises. Truth be told, while electronically managed systems seem more secure, mechanical locks are hard to tamper with also since the materials used to create such locks are dense and hard to manipulate. Security locks such as deadlocks, deadbolts, knob locks, cam locks, mortise locks and more can be maximised to your environment’s full advantage by making sure that the keys to these locks are not easily accessible by the common folk. Security personnel must make sure that keys to these are kept hidden to the public’s knowledge, and that spare keys are also easily available should the keys be missing in the middle of a crisis or an emergency.

Another way to double up on security is to make use of these kinds of locks as a combination of 2 or 3 so it is not easy to tamper with. Security locks must be maintained at all times so that it can work its main purpose without delays and compromises.
